Pablart

Who’s my favorite contemporary artist? This guy. Back before the COVID-19 pandemic, I often came home from my day job to find his works of genius (often art-directed by our eldest) humbly hidden under Legos and other odds and ends long-abandoned by our kids after a few moments of play. I decided to dedicate a section of this blog to put his fine art on display. From you I’m hearing, “Where can I buy a print?” “Can I get a t-shirt displaying this budding artist’s work?” “I need a printed mug of this sh*t!” “Who IS this genius?” To these inquiries I answer, “Calm thy tits.” Merch is a-comin’…maybe. First I need to know there is demand for it. Leave a comment if you’re thirsting to wear Pablart or display it in your home!

A collection of sketches mixing real-life scenes with fictional. A few items are labeled (in Spanish because…he’s a Spaniard), but the objects that elicit deeper reactions from viewers are, perhaps purposefully, lacking in explanation. Why is the person to the right of the iguana crying? And why is there a baguette on his head? Is the person wearing a tie and feathered hat trying to console him? Or perhaps dancing and singing aloofly, unaware of his fellow man’s anguish? Why are all the characters male except for the lady peering out from behind the cabana, and why is she holding an apple? Is that a zombie baby under the “sol” and is it going after that banana, or is there no connection between the two? This piece undoubtedly sends viewers on a journey of wonder.
